K1/K2 Weekly Activities: May 18-22
Please join us in prayer:
Dear Jesus,
Please be with me today.
Help me learn and think and pray.
Help me show my love for you
By being kind in all I do.
Amen.
Religion: Listen to the following story online to remind us of what it means to be thankful. “Thankful” by Eileen Spinelli https://youtu.be/bGVP2A2vOgU
For the next few weeks, see how many of these gratitude (Thankful for’s), you can find. Practice saying “I am Thankful for/Merci pour…” as we do in class and then name the item that you are thankful for. Choose one to draw a picture of.

-Read the story together & enjoy the beautiful illustrations
-Ask what a good shepherd does (check back to see if you get all the things he does)
-Discuss how Jesus is like the Good Shepherd
-St. James May Virtue of Gentleness: How is the Good Shepherd gentle? How can you be gentle every day?
Activity: Have your child listen and/ or follow along with the words as you point to them. Have your child dance to the music & join in singing. Repeat daily until he/she knows the song or, at least, the Chorus!
Math: Composing and decomposing numbers.
Take a plate and divide it into 3 sections.
Write numbers from 1-10 for JK and 1-20 for SK.
Compose a number by using any small toys or beans/buttons.
Show it with a number on your sticky note.
Language: Read the book Hop on Pop by Dr. Seuss. This is a book that has lots of rhyming words in it!
Exercise, Rhyme and Freeze - This is a song that the students can listen to about rhyme. The students exercise when they hear two words that rhyme. They freeze when they hear two words that don’t rhyme.
Tell a word that rhymes with the following:
Tell me a word that rhymes with cat ? (e.g. bat, rat, sat)
Tell me a word that rhymes with dog? (e.g. log, hog, jog)
Tell me a word that rhymes with man? (e.g. fan, ran, tan)
Tell me a word that rhymes with goat? (e.g. boat, coat, float)
Tell me a word that rhymes with red? (e.g. bed, Ted, led)
Tell me a word that rhymes with sun? (e.g. bun, fun, run)
Objects in the room:
Look at the different objects in a room and ask your child to think of a word that rhymes with an object (e.g., Tell me a word that rhymes with chair.). It sometimes helps if you give your child a first letter sound. For example, if the word is cat, ask him or her for a word that rhymes with cat that starts with /s/ (say the ssss sound not the letter s - essss). It’s O.K. if your child makes up nonsense words, e.g., lamp - samp. Have fun!
French: Please review your French Spring words and have fun playing Bingo printemps! You can use the sheet below or create a smaller Bingo sheet to play with your families (See weekly e-mail for photo example with sheet.)
Physical Education: UNO Movement Game for Kids
You take turns flipping over the cards. You assign each colour to an action. The number tells you how many repetitions of each to do. So a yellow 2 means you need to stomp twice and a red 8 tells you to hop as you count to the number on the card (i.e.8). You can choose any movements that you think will work for your child and the area of space you have to play in. Some examples are:
Red - Hop
Yellow - Stomp
Green - Twirl
Blue - Touch Elbows to Opposite Knees
STEAM: Shaving cream experiment: You will need jars or clear cups, shaving cream and blue food colouring (any colour is fine if you don’t have blue). Fill the jar or cup with water and add shaving cream to the top. Predict what will happen when you add drops of food colouring on top. Start adding drops and observe what happens (it looks like rain)! Ask your child what clouds are made of (water) and determine when rain falls (clouds too heavy).

Art: COVID-19 Time capsule
COVID-19 is affecting almost every part of our daily lives. We are living through history right now and someday, this will be a memory that our children will tell their children and grandchildren about!
1) To make your time capsule you need a box. It could be a shoe box, a large mason jar, a container of pringles, a mayonnaise jar, etc.
2) Draw a picture of yourself and kindly ask your parents/older siblings to help you write about the following: your age, your favourite thing to do to stay busy at home, the things you miss the most, a special occasion you might have celebrated and finally your hopes and dreams for when this is over. You can pick a few things to write about or add your own ideas.
3) Next, take a picture and send it to us.
4) Finally, put your work in your container and ask your parents to keep it somewhere safe for 10 years!
5) We hope that you have fun with your time capsule!
Music play online:
This website has been made free to students until July 31, 2020. There are lots of interactive activities, games and videos to help them learn music. Students will automatically be logged in. https://musicplayonline.com/grades/kindergarten/
Outdoor Learning: Nature Walk
Materials:
1.A nature journal or student workbook for observations
2. Handheld device to take photos
Steps:
1.Sketching: Have your child go on a nature walk and select flowers or plants to draw in their workbooks.
2. Create a list: your child can list all of the living things he/she sees (i.e., plants, animals, insects) and later have your child try to identify them using the iNaturalist app, species identification books, or the internet.
3. Observing changes over time: your child can do a long-term project that involves recording changes over time and throughout the different seasons. This can lead to discussions about animal migration, plant/tree reproductive cycles, human interactions with the environment, effects of climate change, etc.
4. Looking at what doesn’t belong: your child can create an inventory of the garbage/litter they find on their walk, and discuss how those items ended up there and what can be done to keep garbage out of natural spaces.
*Please upload any pictures of your child’s learning on our Twitter page or send us an email with your photos. We would love to see all your learning and give your child feedback on their activities! :)
