Dear Families,
We as a K1/K2 Team wish to extend our support during these unusual circumstances. We would like to reassure you that keeping your children happy, calm and cared for is the most important thing that you can be doing at home to support them. If you find yourself with the time and ability to engage in learning with your child each day, we suggest by starting with simply playing with them. Asking them questions and encouraging them to share their thoughts while playing will often lead to natural opportunities to extend their learning or to challenge them. We encourage you to refer to the package that was sent home during the week prior to March Break for specific purposeful play ideas. If you were away and did not receive it, please email your child’s homeroom teacher and it will be sent to you electronically. You may also wish to refer to the Learning at Home reference JAM-Learning at Home Ideas that was sent out through the St. James weekly memo or https://www.ontario.ca/page/learn-at-home. A reminder that your child doesn’t need to be doing “work” to be learning. Beginning next week, we will post daily Twitter Challenges that will focus on literacy/math/STEAM learning which will be optional for you to engage with your child at home.
In the meantime, please know that we encourage you to reach out to us via email or twitter, or to the school at [email protected] if you require support of any kind. There are many wonderful support networks available through our school board and we would be happy to connect you with those.
Please tell your children that we miss them and look forward to hearing about their adventures when we return to school. While much uncertainty remains, we do know that we live in a country and even more specifically, a community that is there for one another and that we will make it through this, strong and united. The most important thing that we can do is to keep our children in a place where they continue to see the beauty in their world and to find joy in their daily life.
Best wishes and blessings,
The K1/K2 Team
